Martin Jol admitted Port Vale had given him a scare before Tottenham came from a goal behind to win 3-1 and reach the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.

Leon Constantine has given the League One side a lead in the 63rd minute at White Hart Lane before the Vale striker deflected in a Tom Huddlestone free-kick to send the fourth-round tie into extra time. Huddlestone's drive established a lead for the Premiership side before Jermain Defoe added gloss to the scoreline by converting Phil Ifil's cross.

Jol had rested 10 of his players the victory over Chelsea in the league but he brought on Aaron Lennon, Dimitar Berbatov and Hossam Ghaly during the game. And he said: "I was concerned, I thought if we don't do this we might go out of the cup. Lennon showed a good mentality and Berbatov knew what it was all about."
