Tim Cahill's knee injury may not be as serious as first feared, according to Everton physio Mick Rathbone.
The Australia midfielder was carried off on a stretcher during Saturday's Barclays Premiership defeat to Aston Villa following an accidental collision with team-mate Lee Carsley.
Rathbone is awaiting the result of a scan that was set to take place today and, while he is refusing to make any precise predictions about the extent of the injury, he believes the damage suffered may have been "relatively minor".
"I've looked at it in slow motion on the video tape and he has obviously hyper-extended his knee," Rathbone said on the club's official website, www.evertonfc.com.
"The consultant came down at half-time to have a look at him but we don't want to make a diagnosis until we have got all the facts."
Rathbone added: "He had the same sort of injury when he went in to a tackle with Jamie Redknapp against Spurs a couple of years ago and he was okay the week after, so there is a thread of comfort there.
"But, as I say, I can't say too much until we've got all the scans and had a good look at it. When you wait for 24 hours or so you get a much better picture.
"I've seen a couple of those in the past where it has looked really bad but the actual damage has been relatively minor."
