Irish international Andy Reid has lent his support to under-fire Charlton manager Iain Dowie after Saturday's draw with Watford left them bottom of the Premiership table.

Ex-Crystal Palace boss Dowie has overseen just one league victory since taking over from Alan Curbishley in the summer.

The Addicks face a real battle to save their top flight status, but Reid, signed by Dowie from Spurs in the summer, is certain that the former Northern Ireland international is up to the task.

He said: "I don't think the fans understand how hard he works on the training pitch.

"That link was the best we've played this season. I know the results haven't been great but that's not down to him - that's down to the players.

"I find it hard that people are giving him stick so early into his Charlton reign. He is the main reason I signed for the club."
