Stuart Pearce has criticised captain Richard Dunne after the Irish international's own goal contributed to City's heaviest defeat in almost four years at the weekend.
Dunne headed past his own keeper after four minutes to hand Wigan Athletic an early 2-0 lead, Emile Heskey having put them in front inside 90 seconds.
City failed to rise to the monumental task after the break, leaking two more goals, and Pearce was severely critical of his side's performance - and Dunne in particular.
He said: "Richard did not take control of the situation. He got a call from the 'keeper and he should have just left the ball. Instead, it ended up in our net."
Referring to the entire team, and focusing particularly on Dunne's leadership, he continued: "I don't go into the dressing room and pick anyone up when they have played as badly as that.
"One or two heads went down in the second half and there was a lack of leadership, which is something we will have to address."
