Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor has criticised Chelsea for their part in the acrimonious aftermath of William Gallas' transfer to Arsenal.
Taylor described as "totally unnecessary" the club's decision to issue a statement accusing Gallas of refusing to play and threatening to score a deliberate own goal if he was picked.
Taylor told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek: "I just don't understand why Chelsea, when everything was done and dusted (should issue the statement)."
