Reports in the morning press suggest that there was a bust-up in the tunnel between Craig Bellamy and some of his former Newcastle United team mates.
Liverpool won the game 2-0 but Bellamy endured a pretty miserable evening. He missed a fantastic opportunity to score and was taunted throughout the evening by the visiting fans, who evidently haven't forgiven him for his acrimonious departure from Newcastle two years ago.
The fiery Welshman had a very public falling out with Geordie legend Alan Shearer and it is pretty clear upon whose side of the argument the Newcastle faithful fall.
It seems that Bellamy also has unfinished business with some of the players, and referee Mark Halsey had to separate him from Stephen Carr late on in the game. Then, when the players had gone down the tunnel after the final whistle, police were seen rushing in, apparently to break up a fracas between Bellamy and Newcastle United officials.
Benitez, however, denied that any punches were thrown; "I could hear something but I couldn't understand what happened," the Liverpool manager claimed; "I really couldn't see. It was over in maybe two seconds. I think it was shouting, nothing else."
