Stuart Pearce has revealed that bad boy Ben Thatcher was told to stay away from Manchester City's 1-0 win over Arsenal.

Thatcher has been suspended by the Blues and is facing the probability of a lengthy ban from the Football Association for his crude challenge on Pedro Mendes. City made light of his absence, and put a turbulent few days behind them by beating the Gunners thanks to Joey Barton's first-half penalty.

"Ben was not here, we told him to stay away," confirmed Pearce. "I spoke to him earlier in the week and he will accept whatever punishment comes his way because he knows he was totally in the wrong."
