Chelsea defender John Terry has been named the new captain of England.
The 25-year-old has succeeded David Beckham as England skipper following the Real Madrid star's decision to relinquish the armband following this summer's World Cup in Germany. Terry will begin his reign as captain in Steve McClaren's first match in charge of the national team, a friendly against Greece at Old Trafford next Wednesday.
The England boss told www.thefa.com: "Choosing a captain is one of the most important decisions a coach has to make. I'm certain I've got the right man in John Terry. I'm convinced he will prove to be one of the best captains England has ever had."
