Sevilla showed Chelsea how to crack the tough nut that is Barcelona with a 3-0 win in the UEFA Super Cup.
For the third successive season, Jose Mourinho's side face Barca in the Champions League, and on this occasion it will be in the group stages. Although Chelsea beat Frank Rijkaard's team 5-4 on aggregate in the last 16 two seasons ago, they were undoubtedly second best at the same stage of the competition last season in losing 3-2, and Barca went on to lift the trophy.
But after lifting the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday, beating Espanyol 4-0 on aggregate, this was a trophy too far for the Primera Liga champions as they were denied a fourth piece of silverware in four months. Former West Ham striker Frederic Kanoute played his part in what must be seen as an upset, scoring the crucial second goal with the final touch of the first half at the Stade Louis II in Monaco.
