Real Madrid are keen to tie David Beckham to a new contract after president Ramon Calderon declared the former England captain a key part of the club's plans.
Beckham's current contract with the Spanish giants runs out next June and the 31-year-old could be free to negotiate with other clubs in January. Calderon is keen to ensure that does not happen and revealed Madrid officials have spoken to Beckham's representatives about a new deal.
"We have talked to his agent and we are in agreement to extend his contract," Calderon said on Real's official website, www.realmadrid.com. "Beckham tells me he is happy in Madrid, that his children are happy, that Brooklyn speaks Spanish."
