Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has signed a three-year contract as manager of Sunderland.
Keane, 35, put pen to paper after Monday's Coca-Cola Championship 2-0 win over West Brom at the Stadium of Light. He will be formally introduced at a press conference on Tuesday. Sunderland have been without a permanent manager since the departure of Mick McCarthy in March with new chairman Niall Quinn filling the role since the start of the season.
Keane takes over with the club next to bottom of the table and out of the Carling Cup following an embarrassing 2-0 defeat at Bury. News of Keane's appointment came out last week, following the Bury loss, but Quinn was annoyed when his former Ireland team-mate's name leaked out.
