Wigan manager Paul Jewell believes it is time the critics laid off Emile Heskey.
Heskey scored the only goal in Wigan's 1-0 victory over newly-promoted Reading at the JJB Stadium to mark the occasion of his 500th career appearance. The 29-year-old has now scored 124 goals in his 12 years as a professional, a record many believe should be far better given his strength and pace.
"A lot has been spoken about Emile," said Jewell. "He has his doubters but the biggest compliment you could pay a player is when the other players are happy you are in their team, and I know my players are delighted to have Emile here."
