Aston Villa are keeping their fingers crossed American billionaire Randy Lerner will have a change of heart and resurrect his bid to buy the midlands club.
Lerner, who has a personal fortune of 1.4billion US dollars, pulled out of negotiations after meeting with Villa chairman Doug Ellis on Wednesday. But American sources insist the 44-year-old, the owner of NFL side Cleveland Browns, could be coaxed into having a change of heart.
Villa are making no comment but it is understood Lerner was taken by surprise by the high-profile nature of the rival consortium fronted by Michael Neville. While Lerner shuns publicity even back in the United States, Neville conducted a series of radio and television interviews once he had made his formal 64million bid to take control of Villa.
