Chelsea skipper John Terry has declared he would "desperately love" to succeed David Beckham as England captain.
New England manager Steve McClaren is searching for a new leader for his side, having replaced Sven-Goran Eriksson with David Beckham standing down as captain. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has already thrown his hat into the ring while also pledging to support whoever landed the job on a full-time basis.
And the Stamford Bridge central defender is more than happy to take the armband, he said: "That is a decision for Steve McClaren to make. Like every player and like everybody in England who has grown up watching England in the past it would be a dream and I would desperately love to be made captain. But it is up to Steve McClaren to make that decision."
