Wigan manager Paul Jewell is poised to cover for an impending fall-out with want-away Pascal Chimbonda with the capture of Emmerson Boyce.
Jewell is set for showdown talks with Chimbonda on Monday when the right-back returns from a holiday after being on World Cup duty with France. But on the same day Jewell will finally complete the signing of long-time target Boyce from Crystal Palace for a fee believed to be around 1.5million.
Jewell is clearly anticipating a stand-off situation developing with Chimbonda as the 27-year-old made it clear earlier this week he still wants to leave the JJB Stadium.
