Dwight Yorke will spend the next few weeks waiting for the phone to ring, hoping his World Cup experience with Trinidad and Tobago will earn him a return to the Barclays Premiership.
The Soca Warriors' 2-0 defeat to Paraguay consigned them to an early flight home from Germany and left Yorke to ponder his future plans. After spending last season in Australia with Sydney FC, the 34-year-old former Manchester United star is eager to come back to England - and Yorke is convinced he has done enough to prod a few Premiership managers into giving him a chance.
"Ask any player and he will tell you the Premiership is the place to be," said Yorke. "And I am no different. I worked really hard for three months ensuring I was fully fit for the World Cup and I feel I have proved I can still compete at the very top level. Now, it is a case of waiting for the phone to ring and seeing whether other people think the same."
