red tape hold up Carlos move

Chelsea will have to wait until the outcome of Real Madrid's presidential elections before completing a possible move for Roberto Carlos.

The 33-year-old Brazil left-back has been identified by Blues boss Jose Mourinho as an addition to his squad to join summer signings Michael Ballack, Andriy Shevchenko, Salomon Kalou and Jon Obi Mikel at Stamford Bridge.

However, a possible transfer looks unlikely before the new president is decided, with Real vice-president Emilio Butragueno telling The Sun: "We believe it would be better not to decide anything until after the elections on July 2.

"It's logical the next president and his advisors should decide if they want Roberto. We'll see how they feel about him and Chelsea and a definite decision will be taken on his future."
