Robben desperate to drop diving tag

6 mei 2006, 10:10

Arjen Robben claims his eagerness to avoid injury has led to his reputation as a diver - but has vowed it will not be an issue next season.

Robben arrived in the Barclays Premiership with a reputation for going down easily after being booked for simulation during Holland's Euro 2004 semi-final defeat by Portugal. And several incidents during his two seasons at Chelsea have only added to his notoriety. But the 22-year-old is anxious to shed his image as a diver, pointing out repeated foot injuries have forced him to take evasive action.

"I prefer not to look back, I want to move on. Things happen. With the diving it's been a very big issue this season and I want to move on," he said. "Everyone has their opinion about it, I have mine and you have yours. And next season I won't be in the headlines for diving again. That's a promise."
