Liverpool forward Robbie Fowler is to sign a one-year contract extension, according to boss Rafael Benitez. Fowler, 30, had been linked with summer moves to Bolton and Blackburn on the expiry of his short-derm deal.

"This is fantastic news," said manager Rafael Benitez. "Robbie has done really well and he deserves this. "He has scored vital goals for us and has worked really hard. I am delighted to have him with us for next season, he is an important member of our squad".

Fowler has scored four goals in 15 games for Liverpool since returning to Anfield on a free-transfer in January after spells at Leeds United and Manchester City. He had been linked with moves to other clubs in the North West but recent form and fitness have convinced the Anfield Club to retain the former England international's services.
