Dowie takes Charlton job

Iain Dowie has been confirmed as Charlton's new manager, just over a week after leaving Crystal Palace.

Former Northern Ireland international Dowie steps into the role vacated by Alan Curbishley at the end of the Barclays Premiership season.

Dowie split from Palace by mutual consent, although Eagles chairman Simon Jordan said: "I would be disappointed if Iain were to turn up at Charlton."
