Everton striker James Beattie has claimed that he will grab at any opprtunity he gets for a call-up to this years World Cup squad after the injury to Wayne Rooney has sparked rumours that Sven will look elsewhere.

The Toffe says that it is a great shame about Rooney's injury and that he still hopes the 20-year-old can be fit for the competition. However if his injury allows a route to the squad for another striker Beattie is desperate to add to his current total of 5 caps and would love to do so in this years World Cup.

At the launch of the new PUMA boot Beattie said, "It's a sad situation we're in, isn't it? With Wayne and Michael." When asked how he felt about the situation he said "I'm devastated. Wayne's such an important player for England, as is Michael. We were disappointed when we heard." The striker was later asked about a possible call-up, "I don't know," he told Sky Sports News. I think it'd be absolutely fantastic if I got the nod or whatever."
