Baines looks to extend stay at JJB

Wigan defender Leighton Baines insists he is willing to sign a new deal with the club rather than follow Jimmy Bullard out of the exit doors.

Bullard will officially join Fulham next Monday after agreeing to a shock 2.5million move on Friday due to a release clause activated in his contract. Baines, who has a year remaining on his current deal, is looking to put pen to paper with the Latics again when negotiations start over the summer.

"The manager [Paul Jewell] is keen for me to sign, and I'm keen myself," confirmed the left back to the Wigan Evening Post. "After the Arsenal game this weekend, talks can begin and they can go as smoothly as possible."
