Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren urged his players not to pass up the chance to make history after seeing them drag themselves into the UEFA Cup semi-finals.
Boro were heading for the exit when Brazilian striker Eduardo extended Basle's aggregate lead to 3-0, only to see his side hit by an onslaught. However, Mark Viduka (2), Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and record signing Massimo Maccarone scored to book a semi-final clash with Steaua Bucharest.
"It's not going to be easy against Bucharest, but we have to take advantage and keep the momentum going and keep it going in the league," said McClaren. "We have got an FA Cup quarter-final next Wednesday and the cups have been good to us. We see it now and we see a semi-final - but it's no good just getting to the semi-final. After what we have been through, we must take this opportunity and get to the final."
