Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires has confirmed that UEFA Champions League opponents Villarreal have offered him a two-year deal at the club due to his contract running out this summer.
Pires is believed to be looking for a similar renewed deal at Arsenal but is becoming frustrated in Arsene Wenger's policy of only offering 1 year contracts to players over the age of 30. As he looks to seal his future the Frenchman may be tempted by this longer deal and it could mean that a free transfer for the player would take place between the clubs. Pires has reiterated that he will not open any negotiations with the club before the semi final second leg has been decided.
"Villarreal want me for the next two seasons," Pires told AS. "The most important thing at the moment is for me to help Arsenal get into the final. After that if I have to talk to the people from Villarreal I will." Pires further hinted at a switch when saying "They are a great team and I like Spain and the Spanish league."
