Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is remaining positive that captain Steven Gerrard will stay with the former European Champions.

Chelsea came agonisingly close to signing the England midfielder last year, but Gerrard decided to stay with Liverpool, he then went onto lift the Champions League trophy.

Benitez revealed that Gerrard is happy at Anfield, and has been settling in this season. "He is happy here, his commitment is the best in the club. Steven's very happy here and has been settled this season."

"Maybe in the future, if he has won The Premiership three times, he might like to play abroad. You can see it in his game - he doesn't want to go anywhere else," added Benitez.

Benitez also remains confident that he will sign a new player before the World Cup starts this summer.

"Before the World Cup, I hope to know more about the financial situation. We can't wait until after the World Cup. We need to know before then and try and bring them in."
