influential Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce last night accused the FA of being out of step with public opinion after Luis Felipe Scolari emerged as the clear favourite for the England job. Former England international pearce, touted as a potential assistant to the new England coach, claimed the majority of fans he had talked to wanted a home-grown candidate to be appointed.
"Theres a groundswell of public opinion that suggests they would like to see someone British based get the job". said Pearce. "Thats the reason why i dont think Scolari will get the job". "The opinion of everyone i speak to in the street seems to be 'we want a british based manager this time around'." Pearce also played down the possibility of being England no 2. "If a coaching place was offered i'd speak about it". he said. " But managing in the Premiership's a full time job.
