Baggies survival hopes take a dive

West Brom assistant boss Nigel Pearson rued "a missed opportunity" to increase the pressure on fellow strugglers Portsmouth after his side were held to a goalless draw by Bolton.

Pompey's 2-1 defeat at Charlton gave Albion the chance to cut the deficit on Harry Redknapp's side to a single point. Pearson conceded that the Baggies may have to win their last three games if they are to pull off the 'Great Escape' for a second successive season.

Pearson said: "If you ask the players they are disappointed at not being able to take advantage of a bit of a bonus before we started our game with Portsmouth losing. It was a missed opportunity but Bolton are a difficult side to play against and we have got to keep going. The players are very disappointed they didn't win."
