Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger today warned Real Madrid off midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
Reports from Spain had suggested that Madrid were lining up a move for the youngster.
Wenger slated Madrid, saying why would Fabregas want to go to a club that are struggling to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. "They can offer him nothing at the moment because they are not much more sure than we are to be in the Champions League," explained Wenger.
"Well, Martin can like what he wants. I can say that for a few players from Real Madrid," added the boss after the president of Madrid Fernando Martin had said he wanted Cesc.
Fabregas spoke of the delight to be linked with the club, but insists that he will stay at Arsenal. "It's a source of pride and happiness for me that a team like Real Madrid are interested in me. I know that a lot of people are talking about it but no one has approached me. However, it's always nice that people talk about you in this way," Fabregas said.
Fabregas is now excited that Real Madrid are coming to Arsenal to play the second leg of their tie in the Champions League, the first time round The Gunners emerged as 1-0 winners with a goal from Thierry Henry. "Real are our rivals and I hope we can beat them, but I can't deny that they are a great team with some great players," explained the young midfielder.
