Struggling Sunderland are preparing to bid for Lincoln's Gareth McAuley.
The defender is out of contract in the summer and Sunderland are the favourites ahead of Cardiff and Leicester. He could be brought in to replace Stephen Wright.
Dario Gradi was leading the race to bring the defender to Crewe, before agents rowed causing the deal to fall through. To make matters even worse McAuley questioned The Imp's ambition.
Ian Evans, Sunderland's assistant manager was at Windsor Park to witness McAuley in action against Estonia with Northern Ireland. Rumour has it he impressed Evans, which caused him to go to Carlisle to watch Gareth performing for Lincoln.
However Evans was left disappointed as Lincoln's game was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
