Gary Neville is winning his battle to be fit for United's Premiership trip to Bolton on Saturday, but Wes Brown has failed to recover from a groin strain. Brown has missed the last three matches with the injury and earlier this week he was joined on the sidelines by the United skipper.
Neville suffered a hamstring strain the day before United's 1-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday. Gerard Pique deputised in the right-back's absence and will do so again if Neville isn't ready to face the Trotters.
However, Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping his captain will be available for the clash. "We're still waiting on Gary, " confirmed the manager at his pre-match press briefing. "He completed a light training session on Friday morning and hopefully he can play. If not Gerard Pique, who did exceltionally well the other night, will continue at right-back.
"Gerard acquitted himself really well and showed good confidence in his play which pleased me. The Bolton game will be a different proposition because they're a really good side who are difficult to play against. But he's got the composure and the temperament to cope with that and I have no fears about playing him if I need to."
