Everton manager David Moyes admits today was crucial in that if Everton won, they would close the gap on Liverpool.
However the result did not go their way as they ended up loosing 3-1. To make matters worse Andy van der Meyde was sent off as was England star Steven Gerrard.
Moyes was frustrated with the outcome of the game and wrapped up the anger by saying "it was a bad day".
"We didn't play as well as we should have done, we had a great opportunity today. We had a mad five minutes either side of half time, really we should have been controlling the game, but found ourselves 2-0 down," Moyes explained to Sky Sports.
"It wasn't a good day. That period after Steven was sent off was probably our worst part of the game."
The result moves Liverpool ahead of Manchester United in second, whilst Everton are squeezed further down the table to tenth.
