Sunderland have sacked manager Mick McCarthy following their dismal start to the season. The former Republic of Ireland boss saw his side fall to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City on Sunday, and that was the vital result that removed McCarthy from the post.
The Black Cats are in great danger of relegation to The Championship collecting only 10 points all season, which could beat the current record for the lowest number of points which was set by themselves a couple of years down the line.
Sunderland have only managed to win two games all season and they were both away victories. They were crowned league champions of The Championship last year with a strong squad, but many of the players left, leaving McCarthy stranded.
"I would like to thank Mick McCarthy for his efforts for the club and wish him and his family the best for the future," said chairman Bob Murray.
