Sir Alex Ferguson hailed Ruud van Nistelrooy after the Dutchman marked his Manchester United return after a five-match absence by grabbing the winner against West Ham at Old Trafford.
Van Nistelrooy has spent a frustrating month on the bench as understudy to Louis Saha but proved his predatory instincts have not been blunted by the spell on the sidelines as he steered home the only goal from Park Ji-Sung's cut-back in first-half stoppage time. It was the Dutchman's 149th career strike for United and his 23rd of the season.
"Ruud is the best in Europe at pulling off a defender and scoring a goal like he did here," said Ferguson. "The great thing is that it was Ruud's first game for a few weeks, he needed the game but he scored a most important goal for us."
