Fabregas: We're not through yet
It seems that one of the people least excited by Cesc Fabregas' performance on Tuesday was the player himself. Arsenal's Spanish midfielder scored one goal and made another as Arsène Wenger's team swept aside Juventus in the Champions League Quarter-Final first leg on a wonderful evening at Highbury.
Much was made of Fabregas' tussle with his former team-mate, Patrick Vieira, in midfield. The teenager was a clear winner on the night and the Frenchman's booking means they will not lock horns in the second leg next week. The 18-year-old remained modest when asked about his achievements after the game. "I always try to do my best," said Fabregas. "Not just because I was playing against Patrick. You can always improve playing against these kinds of players. Not only Patrick but there was Emerson too. He is going to play at the World Cup for Brazil.
"For me, Patrick had a fantastic game and so did Juventus. The only difference is that we scored two goals and did not concede."
That is perhaps understating the case. However Fabregas was nearer the mark when he turned to the second leg. He knows the job is only half-done. "This was a terrific night," said Fabregas. "If you are an Arsenal fan and you watch this kind of game you have to enjoy it. I did personally. But we have to respect the game and respect Juventus for who they are. If you go there and think you are in the Semi-Finals then you are wrong.
"Pavel Nedved is going to come back and I don't know who else. These teams have big players on the bench and in the squad. They will be ready to play the game again. That is why we have to be focused for 90 minutes but we have another game on Saturday link and we have to be focused for that one too.
"We scored twice this evening and it was very important not to concede a goal against a team like Juventus. Now we will see what happens in Turin."
