Michael Essien insists his horror tackle on Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has made him a more cautious player. Hamann was scythed down by Essien during the 0-0 Champions League draw at Stamford Bridge last December, landing Chelsea's record signing a two-match ban from UEFA. The challenge was described by Hamann as the worst he had experienced, and the German initially feared he had broken his leg.
"I have changed my game. I am a little bit careful now when I go into contact. I felt bad about the Hamann tackle," said Essien who, after another fearsome tackle on Bolton's Tal Ben Haim and an elbow on Arsenal defender Lauren, began to establish an unwanted reputation.
