England captain David Beckham has dismissed reports claiming that he will not be fit for England's crucial friendly against Uruguay on Wednesday.

The multi-millionaire was substituted during Real Madrid's loss to Mallorca after picking up a back injury, however Becks said, "My back should be fine. It was just a little bit of pain and being cautious I just came off."

If Beckham does play, he will not be playing alongside Steven Gerrard as Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has pleaded to save Gerrard for Liverpool's important Premiership and Champions League games.

Worse still, Gerrard picked up a foot injury that required treatment against Manchester City on Sunday.

Benitez said, "Players need a rest. I don't want to give Eriksson advice. He is experienced but he must think about it." Eriksson is yet to make his decision on the team that will start, however reports claim that he will do so on Monday.
