Real Madrid and England captain David Beckham has backed Thierry Henry to stay with Arsenal. Beckham saw the potential when Arsenal visited The Bernabeu on Tuesday night and Arsenal emerged as 1-0 winners with Henry grabbing the crucial goal.

Even after Saturday's poor defeat to Blackburn, the England midfielder believes Arsenal have the calibre to keep Henry. "Arsenal have proved they have what it takes to keep Thierry. They are a team to match his calibre as a player", Beckham said.

David believes that Henry is a "phenomenal player", and although Barcelona have been favourites to sign the French superstar, Beckham believes that Henry is happy in London.

"Of course I don't want Thierry to sign for Barcelona. As a friend I'd like him to come here. But I know he is happy in London with Arsenal, He wants to stay at Highbury and when he's performing like that who can blame the fans, manager and the rest of the team for wanting to keep him." added Beckham.
